 THE AACI STAMP FUND

Art Braunstein has set up a program that will convert used stamps into donations to AACI whereby he will convert each picture stamp into money with a 5 agorot contribution to AACI.  Stamps should have a nominal market value, and a contribution of multiples is fine from anywhere (including Israel), either on paper or off.  Donated stamps go into trading among fellow collectors.  So save those stamps and turn them into money for AACI!

We have already installed our stamp collecting box in the AACI lobby at 11 Pinsker St., Jerusalem.

We thank Art for his initiative and we look forward to the box filling up fast!

 American Citizen Services Appointment System

CONSULAR WARDEN MESSAGE FROM THE U.S. EMBASSY IN TEL AVIV, ISRAEL:

Increases to U.S. Passport Fees and New Parental Signature Requirements for U.S. Minors

On February 1, 2008, the U.S. Government will increase its fees for certain U.S. citizen passport services.  For adult applicants renewing a passport, the total fee will increase to $75.  For first-time applicants age 16 and over, the total fee will increase to $100.  The fee for minors under 16 years of age will be $85.

Effective February 1, 2008, passport applicants who are U.S. citizen minors under the age of 16 must appear personally with their parents to establish identity, proof of citizenship and proof of relationship.  For parental application permission, both parents must appear together and sign, or one parent may appear to sign and submit the other parent's notarized statement, or one parent may appear, sign, and submit primary evidence of sole authority.  Minors age 16 and 17 may apply in person with their own identification, but for security reasons, parental consent may be required.  If your child does not have identification of their own, a parent will be required to accompany the child and present identification. Please refer to the Department of State's website at www.travel.state.gov for complete information on these new requirements and the U.S. Embassy website (http://telaviv.usembassy.gov) for complete U.S. passport application instructions.

Americans traveling abroad should regularly monitor the U.S. Embassy's website (http://telaviv.usembassy.gov), and the U.S. Department of State's travel website at http://travel.state.gov, where the current Worldwide Caution, Travel Warnings, and Travel Alerts can be found.  The U.S. Embassy also encourages U.S. citizens to review to "A Safe Trip Abroad," found at  http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/safety/safety_1747.html , which includes valuable security information for those both living and traveling abroad.  In addition to information on the Internet, travelers may obtain up-to-date information on security conditions by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll-free in the U.S. and Canada, or outside the U.S. and Canada on a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444.

Citizens living and residing in  Israel  are advised to register their presence in the country through the U.S. Department of State's automated online registration system, https://travelregistration.state.gov.  This complete message is available on the Embassy's website at http://telaviv.usembassy.gov

FACT SHEET
NEW APPOINTMENT SYSTEM FOR AMERICAN CITIZENS
AT CONSULATE GENERAL JERUSALEM.

Background: The U.S. Consulate General serves American citizens living in Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza. This population has been estimated at 85,000. This large number of customers means there is a great demand for American citizen services from the U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem. Recently, this has meant long lines and long waits for Americans.

To better and more efficiently serve Americans in these areas, the Consulate has created a new on-line appointment system that will decrease wait times for clients and allow services for more clients in the course of a year. Beginning August 6, all individuals seeking a passport, consular report of birth abroad or notary services will be required to have an appointment in advance. Appointments will be free of charge.

To schedule an appointment, customers will need to go online at: https://evisaforms.state.gov/acs/default.asp?postcode=JRS&appcode=1 This site can also be accessed by visiting the Consulate General website at http://jerusalem.usconsulate.gov/ and clicking “U.S. Citizen Services.”

Appointments are required for passport, consular report of birth abroad or notary services.

Clients must present their appointment receipt at the entrance to the Consulate building on Nablus Road before being admitted.

Appointment slots are available in 15 minute increments. A separate appointment will be required for each service needed, i.e. one appointment for a passport renewal, a second for a consular report of birth abroad.

Appointments can only be made for services to be performed at the Consulate building on Nablus Road.

Clients needing extra visa pages, to apply for social security or report a death will not require an appointment. These services will still be performed from 8:00 to 11:30 a.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of each week.

For further information: Please contact us by e-mail at jerusalemacs@state.gov, by phone at: 02-628-7137 or 02-622-7219, or by fax at 02-627-2233.
